South Africa tour of Sri Lanka 2018, Second Test Match, Day 2, Sri Lanka vs South Africa – Sri Lanka lead by 365 runs at stumps on Day 2
Saturday, July 21, 2018, Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo
Day 2 Wrap:
Visitors South Africa were confident at the start of the day with Keshav Maharaj wreaking havoc with the ball in Sri Lanka’s first innings. However, the same team ended the day on a terrible note having conceded a great lead to hosts in the first innings.
Sri Lanka started the day well with their last pair Akila Dananjaya (43*) and Rangana Herath (35) adding 74 runs for the last wicket in their first innings. Sri Lanka spinners then took charge to give the home team complete control of the Test match. Three spinners bowled just 34.5 overs to bowl out South Africa for just 124 in the first innings. And then Sri Lankan top order led the charge with the bat who looked very keen to get themselves to a great total.
It was very poor batting from the South Africans in this tour. In the three innings they batted so far in this tour, they did not manage to get a 150+ score at least in one of the innings. Sri Lanka tour of South Africa last year was very much one sided in the favor of hosts and Sri Lanka this time are likely returning the favor.
Meanwhile, South Africa’s pacer Dale Steyn was wicket less in the first innings and in the second innings so far. He need one more wicket to become the leading wicket taker for South Africa.
Match Summary (so far):
Sri Lanka – 338 all out (Dananjaya de Silva – 60, Danushka Gunathilaka – 57, Keshav Maharaj – 9/129, Kagiso Rabada – 1/55) & 151/3 (Danushka Gunathilaka – 61, Dimuth Karunaratne – 59*, Keshav Maharaj 2/90) lead South Africa 124 (Faf du Plessis 48, Quinton de Kock 32, Akila Dananjaya 5/52, Dilruwan Perera 4/40) by 365 runs
