India tour of England 2018, Five Test Match Series, Fifth Test Match, England vs India
Friday, September 7, 2018, The Oval, London
We have finally arrived at the last match of the ongoing India’s long tour of England. The fifth and final Test between England and India will be played at The Oval starting from Friday (Sep 07) and is scheduled to start at 03:30 pm IST on each of the five days. England have already won this five match series and are leading it by 3-1.
Meanwhile, Alastair Cook has shocked everyone with his sudden announcement of retirement. The Oval Test match will be his last international match. England would want to make this memorable for him while India will be eager to end the long tour on a high! With Cook’s announcement, selection panel has not made any changes to their struggling opening pair which implies Alastair Cook along with Keaton Jennings will open the innings in the fifth Test.
Ollie Pope and Chris Woakes are the only players in England’s 13-member squad that didn’t feature in the fourth Test match. Having already won the series, they might recall Ollie Pope in place of injured Jonny Bairstow while Chris Woakes might replace their wrist spinner Adil Rashid.
India, on the other hand, are expected to make a lot of changes for the fifth Test match. They might hand debut to 19-year old opener Prithvi Shaw while Ravindra Jadeja (No. 3 in ICC bowler Rankings) could replace ‘not fully fit’ Ravichandran Ashwin. At the least, Hanuma Vihari might get a place in the team replacing ‘struggling’ Hardik Pandya!
