Easy win for England Lions against India A

India A tour of England 2018, One-off Unofficial Test, England Lions vs India A – England Lions won by 253 runs

Thursday, July 19, 2018, New Road, Worcester

Match Wrap:

Star studded England Lions (otherwise known as England A) handed a heavy defeat to India A touring in England in the one-off unofficial Test match in Worcester. Hosts loaded their line up with their international stars which boasts the likes of Alastair Cook, Dawid Malan and Chris Woakes.

It was a great knock from Alastair Cook in the first innings, which helped the hosts score big (423 all out). Not a lot of positives for India in this game as they failed with the bat eventually which led them to lose the Test match heavily.

It does seem like English players Alastair Cook and Dawid Malan got the much needed practice before the all-important five match Test series against India. Cook scored 180 in the first innings, while Dawid Malan managed to score at least a fifty in both the innings (74 in the first innings and 56 in the second innings).

Rishabh Pant, who was picked in India’s squad for the first three Tests against England, has had a great match with the bat. He scored half-centuries in both the innings – 58 in the first innings and 61 in the second innings. Ajinkya Rahane too warmed up ahead of the series with two good scores. Unlucky that he missed his fifties in both the innings – 49 in the first innings and 48 in the second innings. Let us hope Rahane won’t lose his place this time in England to ‘some Rohit Sharma’ in the squad.

Mohammad Siraj has been brilliant with the ball for India as he picked up 7 wickets in the match (4/79 & 3/55). On the other hand, England’s Sam Curran got a five-for in the first innings.

Match Summary:

England A – 423 all out (Alastair Cook – 180, Dawid Malan – 74, Mohammad Siraj – 4/79, Shahbaz Nadeem – 3/46) and 194/5 decl (Dawid Malan – 56, Ollie Pope – 50*, Mohammad Siraj – 3/55, Shahbaz Nadeem – 1/36) beat India A – 197 all out (Prithvi Shaw – 62, Rishabh Pant – 58, Sam Curran – 5/43, Chris Woakes – 2/28) and 167 all out (Rishabh Pant – 61, Ajinkya Rahane – 48, Sam Curran – 2/17, James Porter – 2/43) by 253 runs
