Day 3 Wrap:
Hanuma Vihari and Ravindra Jadeja played their part in carrying India close to England’s first innings total. In this process, Vihari on debut scored 56 runs while Jadeja left stranded on 86* as India bowled out for 292 in their first innings conceding England a 40-run first innings lead. This is Jadeja’s ninth half century in this format while Vihari’s fifty will keep many mouths shut especially after all the drama over his selection for the fifth Test match!
Alastair Cook along with Joe Root batted well in the third session on Day 3 to extend England’s lead. Keaton Jennings once again in this series shouldered his arms and lost his wicket, this time he was cleaned up by Shami with an in-swinger. Moeen Ali walked in at no. 3 played a good number of 52 deliveries for his 20 runs before Jadeja disturbed his stumps.
At stumps on Day 3, Cook unbeaten on 46* is at the crease along with Root who was batting on 29*. England are currently leading India by 154 runs in their second innings with 8 wickets in hand. At this juncture, hosts are in complete control of the game while India have to push their limits if there thinking to win this Test match!
Cook had scored a half-century in the first innings and is batting on 46* in the second innings at The Oval. This has been so far a great game for him in his last hurrah at the International cricket!
