New Zealand Take Series Lead Against England

First Test Match, New Zealand vs England – New Zealand won by an innings and 49 runs

Eden Park, Auckland, March 22th – 26th.

Match wrap:

England are not having a best time in the longer format of the game especially in the overseas conditions. Earlier, they lost the Ashes cheaply before losing the first Test match in New Zealand by a massive margin.

New Zealand opt to bowl after winning the toss in the first Test and the decision has proven too good with England getting bowled out for just 58. Trent Boult bagged a six-for while Tim Southee claiming the rest of the wickets! Hosts bowled just 20.4 overs to bowl out England for their sixth lowest score in a single Test innings.

New Zealand, in response, piled on runs by virtue of centuries from their Captain Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls. Courtesy of rain break, England were able to push the match to the final hour on the day but a brilliant effort from the Kiwi bowlers on the final Day hand New Zealand a massive win and a 1 – 0 lead in the two match series.

One of the leading Cricket websites has described Wagner’s effort on Day 5 in this way: “Roar you Wagner. Roar louder. He’s bowled his heart out, banging in a bouncer one after another. Over after over. Session after session.”

Wagner really bowled his heart out to hand New Zealand a massive victory. The wickets of Ben Stokes at the stroke of the Dinner and the wicket of Chris Woakes in the last hour of play on Day 5 are the highlights of his spell.

The first ever day-night Test match in New Zealand truly gave the hosts many sweet memories. They will aim for a clean sweep of the Test series when they England on Friday.
