Bangladesh tour of West Indies 2018, Three Match T20I Series, First T20I, West Indies vs Bangladesh
Wednesday, August 01, 2018, Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts
West Indies were seemed to be in a hurry to finish the game and they got to the target with 11 balls to spare and 7 wickets in hand. It was a great hitting from their batting unit. Especially after losing the ODI series to Bangladesh, the hosts took the battle to their opponents in the first T20I to go 1 – 0 up in the three match T20I series.
Put into bat first, Bangladesh got to just 143 for 9 in their 20 overs. They were off to an awful start losing both their openers in the first over for a Golden Duck. None of their batsmen got going from there on and Mahmudullah, who scored 35 runs, was their top scorer. Kesrick Williams is the pick of West Indian bowlers who registered his career best figures – 4 for 28 in his 4 overs.
Heavens opened up as soon as Bangladesh finished their batting and the target was revised as per the DLS method – Windies were asked to chase down 91 runs in just 11 overs. Though it looked all gloomy for Bangladesh, they did pull things back with two wickets at the start. Then Andre Russell (35* off 21) and Marlon Samuels (26 off 13) took Windies closer to the target with mighty blows. In the end, Windies got to the target pretty easily with 7 wickets in hand.
The action now moves to United States, where the remaining two T20I games of the series will be played. The second T20I will be played in Florida on Aug 05.
West Indies – 93/3 in 9.1 overs (Andre Russell – 35*, Marlon Samuels – 26, Mustafizur Rahman – 2/18, Rubel Hossain – 1/13) beat Bangladesh – 143/9 in 20 overs (Mahmudullah – 35, Liton Das – 24, Kesrick Williams – 4/28, Ashley Nurse – 2/6) by 7 wickets
