Third time both Bangladesh openers out for a Duck

After losing the three match ODI series by a margin of 2-1, hosts West Indies have made a strong comeback to beat Bangladesh in the first T20I of the three match series. Rain made an appearance during the innings break, which revised the Windies target making it more complex. However, Windies held their nerve to chase down the target with 7 wickets in hand and 11 balls to spare.

Here are the statistical highlights from this game:

4/28 – West Indies pacer Kesrick Williams picked up four wickets in this game. These are his career best bowling figures and is also his maiden four-for in this format. He got the wickets of Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Nazmul Islam. Kesrick’s previous best T20I figures were 3 for 11 against Afghanistan last year. All his top three best bowling figures in T20Is, Kesrick Williams registered at the same venue, Warner Park.

3 – Number of instances in which Bangladesh lost both their openers for a Duck in T20Is. In this game in St Kitts, both Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar departed for golden ducks in the very first over of the match. The other two instances for Bangladesh are – Against Australia in 2010 and against Sri Lanka in 2016. Overall, this is the 13th time that a team lost both their openers for a Duck in a T20I.

No. 3 – Andre Russell batted at no. 3 in this match. He scored an unbeaten 35* runs off just 21 deliveries with 3 fours and 3 sixes. This is the third time he batted at this position in T20Is and West Indies won all those three games. The other two games in which Russell batted at no. 3 – Against New Zealand in 2012 and against India in 2016.

50 – The first T20I between West Indies and Bangladesh is the 50th Twenty 20 International game for 37-year old West Indies spinner Samuel Badree. He played 48 T20Is for West Indies and the other two games for World XI in Pakistan last year. Surprisingly, he opened the bowling 46 T20Is till date. As a spinner of a ‘non sub-continent’ team, this is a rare feat.

1 – Number of times Ashley Nurse opened the bowling for West Indies in T20Is. He bowled the very first over of the match in which he dismissed both Bangladeshi openers (Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar) for a golden duck.
