Vitality T20I Series, Third T20I Match, England vs India – India won by 7 wickets
Sunday, July 08, 2018, County Ground, Bristol
Series is level 1 – 1 coming into this third and final T20I of the series. After losing the second T20I, India made a comeback in this final game and how? Milestone century from Rohit, Record number of catches by Dhoni and career best bowling figures for Hardik.
Hardik’s four-for haul in this game is the first instance for him to pick up four wickets in a single T20I. Dhoni took 5 catches in this game, most for any wicket keeper in a T20I match. Rohit remained unbeaten on 100* in this victory, his third century in this format. New Zealand’s Colin Munro is the only other player to score three centuries in T20Is.
Put into bat first, England openers provided them a great start. However, Hosts couldn’t build on that start as they got to just 198 for 9 in 20 overs. They fell 30 to 40 runs short with the kind of start they got, thanks to the comeback from Indian bowlers. In response, India chased down the total with 7 wickets in hand and with 8 balls to spare!
A four wicket haul with the ball and an unbeaten 33* off just 14 deliveries with the bat – Hardik Pandya is our Man of the Match in this game. But the match officials do seem like consumed by Rohit’s milestone century, which prompted them to award him the ‘Player of the Match’ award.
Both the teams will move to Trent Bridge in Nottingham to kick start the three match ODI series. The first of the ODIs will be played at this venue. Just a friendly reminder: this is the same venue where England scored the highest ODI total by any team in history.
India – 201/3 in 18.4 overs (Rohit Sharma – 100*, Virat Kohli – 43, David Willey – 1/37, Jake Ball – 1/39) beat England – 198/9 in 20 overs (Jason Roy – 67, Jos Buttler – 34, Hardik Pandya – 4/28, Siddarth Kaul – 2/35) by 7 wickets
