England tour of India 1993, Three Match Test Series, Second Test Match
Playing in only his 23rd Test match for India, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar compiled his maiden 150 plus score in this format. He had scored 165 runs from 296 deliveries against England in Chennai which includes 24 fours and a six.
Young Sachin Tendulkar got support from the experienced players to help India get to a grand total. Sachin was first involved in a 147-run stand with Sidhu for the third wicket. And followed it up with 118-run partnership for the fifth wicket along with Pravin Amre. Besides Sachin Tendulkar’s 165, Navjot Singh Sidhu (106) scored a century and Vinod Kambli (59), Pravin Amre (78) and Kapil Dev (66*) all scored half centuries to help India declare their first innings with 560 for 6 on the board.
Indian spinners (Venkatapathy Raju, Rajesh Chauhan and Anil Kumble) then took charge to bowl out England twice in the match to earn India a massive victory by a margin of ‘innings and 22 runs’. Anil Kumble picked up a six wicket haul in England’s second innings, his second 6-wkt haul in Tests.
Sachin Tendulkar received the ‘Player of the Match’ Award in this game for his 165 runs. This was his second ‘Player of the Match’ award in Tests. And this Test match was also his second Test match against England. Coincidentally, Sachin’s first ‘Player of the Match’ award in Tests was also against the same opposition, England – for scores of 68 & 119* in Manchester in 1990.
