Bangladesh tour of West Indies 2018, Second ODI, West Indies vs Bangladesh
Wednesday, July 25, 2018, Providence Stadium, Guyana
Hosts West Indies are getting ready to host Bangladesh in the second ODI of the three match series on Wednesday (July 25). Play starts at 12:00 am IST tonight (midnight hours) – 02:30 pm local time. Bangladesh won the first ODI played at the same venue to take a 1 – 0 lead in the three match series. But, unlike the first ODI, the second ODI is a day/night affair.
Having already won the first ODI, Bangladesh are sitting comfortably in the driver’s seat in this series. West Indies now have to win both the remaining ODIs to win the series or they would have only themselves to blame as World Cup is fast approaching in less than a year.
After being failed to put up a contest in the two match Test series, Bangladesh seem to have finally settled in their groove beating West Indies by 48 runs in the first ODI match courtesy brilliant performances from their senior players. Tamim, Shakib and Mushfiqur starred with the bat, while their captain Mashrafe Mortaza excelled with the ball. Bangladesh would again rely on them to produce a result in their favor in any of the remaining two ODI matches.
On the other hand, West Indies looked pale with the bat in the first match. Even the presence of hitters like Gayle, Lewis and Russell didn’t inspire hosts to chase down a ‘chasable target’. Young Shimron Hetmyer was their lone performer with the bat in the first ODI who scored a half century.
Meanwhile, Shakib al Hasan opined that it is their best chance to wrap the three match series in the second ODI on Wednesday (July 25) as the venue best suits their spin bowling.
“We will try to wrap the series by tomorrow [in second ODI] but at the same time we must remember that they will be eager to make a comeback. The St Kitts wicket [venue of third ODI] is known to produce runs and it will be slightly smaller than this and it will suit them,” said Shakib al Hasan ahead of the second ODI.
