Bangladesh tour of West Indies 2018, First ODI, West Indies vs Bangladesh
Sunday, July 22, 2018, Providence Stadium, Guyana
The two match Test series between West Indies and Bangladesh is done and dusted, which hosts won by 2 – 0. It is now time for the limited overs format games. The first ODI of the three match series will be played today (July 22) at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Play starts at 09:30 am local time (07:00 pm IST).
Bangladesh had a great practice game ahead of this series. Mosaddek Hossain (4 for 14) and Rubel Hossain (3 for 40) bowled brilliantly in the first half, while fifties from Liton Das (70) and Mushfiqur Rahim (75*) helped them win the game by 4 wickets. Opener Nazmul Hossain Shanto also spent some time in the middle, who scored 43.
It has been a while since any of these teams played in an ODI match. Bangladesh last played an ODI in January 2018, while West Indies played their last ODI in March 2018 in the World Cup Qualifiers. Meanwhile, Weather forecast doesn’t look great for this game. Showers are expected throughout the day which might play spoilsport.
In the ICC ODI Team Rankings, Bangladesh are at seventh position with 93 rating points, while West Indies are reeling at ninth position with just 69 rating points. Even a 3 – 0 whitewash by West Indies will not make any changes to their positions in the rankings table.
Head to Head Record:
Matches played – 28, West Indies won – 19, Bangladesh won – 7, No Result – 2
West Indies have a clear advantage over Bangladesh in this format of the game. Visitors have three wins against West Indies on Caribbean soil but all the three wins came long back in 2009. Both these two teams are playing an ODI for the first time at this venue – Providence Stadium in Guyana.
Favorites to win:
Hosts West Indies are clearly the favorites to win this game. Visitors Bangladesh don’t look comfortable in the two match Test series and they need to improve their game very much to stand any chance against the mighty West Indies in this limited overs series.
