India have defeated England in the first ODI in Trent Bridge to take 1 – 0 lead in the ongoing three match ODI series. Though many expected it be a high scoring game, Indian Kuldeep Yadav with his maiden six wicket haul had not let English batsmen to score freely. Here are some of the statistical highlights from this game:
137* – Rohit Sharma’s score in the first ODI against England at Trent Bridge, his 18th century in ODIs. This is the highest ODI score for any Indian player against England playing in England. Previous best score was 107 by Virat Kohli at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff in 2011.
39 – The first ODI match between India and England this series in Trent Bridge is the 50th ODI match for Virat Kohli as captain. And the win in this ODI is his 39th as captain, joint most for a captain in their first 50 ODIs. West Indies’ Clive Lloyd and Australia’s Ricky Ponting are the only other captains to have 39 wins in their first 50 ODIs as captain.
0 – Number of wickets taken by England pacers in this ODI. Only their spinners, Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid, got a wicket each. This is only the third time that none of the England pacers failed to pick up a wicket in an ODI played in England. Both the previous occurrences were against Sri Lanka in Durham, 2006 and in Leeds, 2006.
59 – India beat England in the first ODI with 59 balls to spare. This is the second biggest win for India against England in England in terms of ‘number of balls to spare’. India chased down 207 to beat England in Edgbaston in 2014 with 117 balls to spare which is their best.
6 – Number of wickets taken by Kuldeep Yadav in this game. This is the first time he picked up 5 or more wickets in an ODI. This is the ninth instance for India and eighth Indian bowler to pick up a six wicket haul in this format of the game. Also, this is the first time a spinner picked up a 6 wicket haul in England in ODIs.
6/25 – Kuldeep Yadav’s bowing figures in the Trent Bridge ODI. These are the fourth best bowling figures for an Indian in an ODI. Ashish Nehra’s 6 for 23 in the 2003 ODI World Cup in Durban are the best bowling figures for an Indian bowler against England in ODIs.
103 – Number of deliveries faced by Ben Stokes in this ODI. This is the second longest innings for Ben Stokes in ODIs in terms of balls faced. Also, he got to his fifty in 102 deliveries, slowest for him in this format. His previous slowest was off 63 balls against Pakistan in Cardiff in 2016.
