Sri Lanka tour of South Africa 2018, ODI Series, Fifth ODI, Sri Lanka vs South Africa
Sunday, August 12, 2018, R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo
“We shall have a drink tonight,” said an elated Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews after winning the fourth ODI in Pallekele. Sri Lankan fans seemed so happy after the win but at the same time they would want their team to come out of the hangover before the fifth and final ODI.
Sri Lanka just escaped a defeat in the fourth ODI courtesy with the help of continuous rain breaks. With each rain break, overs getting trimmed and Sri Lanka’s chances of winning the game increased! Sri Lanka got to just over 300 runs batting first in 39 overs and South Africa’s target was revised to just under 191 runs in 21 overs which was really unfair! And yet Sri Lanka managed to win the game by just 3 runs.
Both teams are expected to make changes to their playing XI in this series decider on Sunday (Aug 12) which will be played at Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. South Africa are looking favorites to win this fifth ODI though they lost their previous ODI to Sri Lanka.
In case if you are not aware, Faf du Plessis injured his shoulder in the third ODI of the series and is currently undergoing a 6-week rehabilitation period. Quinton de Kock has been named as their captain in Faf’s absence.
Series so far:
South Africa led by Faf du Plessis won the first three ODIs comfortably by a great margin and won the five match series by a margin of 3 – 0. Having already won the series, Proteas captained by Quinton de Kock made too many changes (that weakened their bowling department) and lost the fourth ODI just by a whisker.
