Bangladesh tour of West Indies 2018, Second ODI match, West Indies vs Bangladesh – West Indies won by 3 runs
Thursday, July 26, 2018, Providence Stadium, Guyana
‘Thrilling’, ‘nerve wrecking’, ‘cliff hanger’, ‘nail biting’ – call it what you want. The second ODI between hosts West Indies and Bangladesh has it all in the second ODI of the three match series. Jason Holder conceded 20 runs in this first over and 13 runs from the 48th over, however, he held his nerve to defend 8 runs in the final over to hand West Indies a thrilling win.
Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bowl first. West Indies once again in the series had a slow start with their top three scoring less than run-a-ball. Shimron Hetmyer then stepped up to the cause scoring his second century in ODIs – 125 runs off just 93 deliveries with 3 fours and 7 sixes. West Indies ended their innings with 271 in 49.3 overs. Bangladesh, chasing the target, were in the game during most part of the chase, but they couldn’t cash in and eventually lost the game in the end.
“It was disappointing to lose such a game when you need 14 runs in 13 balls with six wickets in hand and ended up losing the game. It is more disappointing because it is not the first time we have lost a game from such a position as it has happened on quite a few occasions,” said Mashrafe Mortaza, Bangladesh Captain, after the loss.
With this victory, West Indies level the two match series by 1 – 1. Bangladesh won the first ODI by 48 runs, while West Indies won the second ODI by 3 runs. The third and final ODI of the series will be played at St Kitts on Saturday (July 28).
