Bangladesh tour of West Indies 2018, Third ODI, West Indies vs Bangladesh – Bangladesh won by 18 runs

Bangladesh were heavily thrashed in the two match Test series and then they made a fairy tale comeback to win the three match ODI series by a 2 – 1 margin. In the third and final ODI, Bangladesh defeated hosts West Indies by 18 runs to win the match as well as the series.

Here are the statistical highlights:

First series win for Bangladesh outside Asia since 2009.

Bangladesh last bilateral ODI series win outside Asia came in the year 2009. They have defeated Zimbabwe in a five match series by a margin of 4 – 1 in Zimbabwe to win the series comfortably. Just before this series, Bangladesh had whitewashed West Indies in a three match ODI series.

Bangladesh,, now in 2018 defeated West Indies to win the three match series by a margin of 2 – 1. They had won the first ODI by 48 runs and West Indies won the second ODI 3 runs. Then Bangladesh made a great comeback to win the third ODI as well as the series.

11 – Number of players used by Bangladesh in this three match ODI series against West Indies; implies Bangladesh fielded same Playing XI in all the three ODI games in this Caribbean tour. This is the third time that Bangladesh played same XI in an ODI series with three or more matches in it. The other two instances were against Ireland in 2008 and against Sri Lanka in 2017.

27 – Number of deliveries taken by Rovman Powell to complete his half century against Bangladesh in the third and final ODI of the series. This is the second fastest fifty for a West Indian player against Bangladesh in this format of the game. Darren Sammy’s 20-ball fifty against South Africa is the highest for a West Indies player in ODIs.

2 – Number of centuries scored by Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal in this three match ODI series against West Indies. He scored an unbeaten 130* in the first ODI and 103 in the third ODI. This is the second time he scored two centuries in a bilateral ODI series. Previous instance was in a three match series against Pakistan in the year 2015.

3 – Number of instances in which Tamim Iqbal registered three or more fifty plus scores in a bilateral ODI series. He scored an unbeaten 130* in the first ODI, 54 in the second ODI and 103 in the third ODI of this three match ODI series against West Indies. Other two instances for Tamim were – Against Zimbabwe in 2009, Against Pakistan in 2015. Shahriar Nafees (in 2008) is the only other player to have scored three fifty plus scores in a bilateral ODI series for Bangladesh.
