Basil Thampi (SRH): 4 – 0 – 70 – 0
Sun Risers Hyderabad pacer Basil Thampi has registered the worst IPL bowling figures in the recently concluded eleventh edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). He has conceded 70 runs in his 4 overs against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Chinnaswamy stadium in the 51st match of this season.
RCB scored 218/6 in their 20 overs in this game while SRH came close during the chase as they lost the game by just 14 runs. Though SRH bowlers conceded too many runs, it was Manish Pandey (62 off 38) who had to face all the criticism for his uncharacteristic innings! Though he scored runs, it was his slow paced innings that hurt SRH chances of winning this game.
Thampi’s 70 runs are the most runs conceded in an IPL game and the third most by a bowler in a single T20 innings. Thampi played a key role in Gujarat Lions bowling line-up in 2017 picking up 11 wickets in 12 matches but due to his poor form he featured in just 4 matches for Sun Risers in 2018.
Yuvraj Singh (KXIP): Strike Rate – 89.04
India’s world cup winner in 2011, Yuvraj Singh, bagged an unwanted record with the bat in IPL 2018. He batted with a strike rate of just 89.04 in the 8 games he played for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). This is the worst strike rate for any player in this season of IPL who have faced at least 50 deliveries.
This is the first time in his IPL career that he batted with a strike rate less than 100! Due to his poor form, he is in-and-out of the team in this season. Though fans were critical about dropping Yuvi, they have soon realized the time has come to keep him out.
Gautam Gambhir (DD): Matches – 6, Runs – 85, Average – 17.00, Strike Rate – 96.59
The most successful captain of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL decided to play for the Delhi Daredevils in the IPL 2018 season hoping to change fortunes for his home team (DD). Instead, his fortunes took a U-turn as he was dropped from the team as soon as he resigned from captaincy after 6 games.
This is a nightmarish season for him as he scored just 85 runs at a strike rate below 100. This is the first time in Gambhir’s 11-year long IPL career that he batted with a Strike rate less than 100. The Delhi Daredevils won just a game in their first six games under the leadership of Gambhir.
Most Ducks in IPL 2018: 3
Jofra Archer of Rajasthan Royals, Ravichandran Ashwin of Kings XI Punjab and Ishan Kishan of Mumbai Indians have registered three ducks each in this season. This is the most for any player in this edition while 4 ducks by 3 different players in the earlier seasons are the most for any player in the whole tournament.
