IPL 2018, 46th Match, Chennai Super Kings vs Sun Risers Hyderabad – Chennai Super Kings won by 8 wickets
Sunday, May 13, 2018, Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune
Ambati Rayudu’s maiden IPL Ton helped Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat table toppers Sun Risers Hyderabad (SRH) by a huge margin of 8 wickets to register their eighth win in the ongoing season of IPL. CSK, with 16 points, have booked a play-off berth for themselves with two more matches remaining.
Put into bat first, Sun Risers were off to a slow start courtesy an economical 4-over spell from Deepak Chahar, who conceded just 16 runs while picking up the wicket of dangerous Alex Hales. Later, Dhawan along with Williamson, steadied the ship which helped Sun Risers get to 179 for 4 in their 20 overs.
Set a target of 180 to win, CSK are off to a flier with openers Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu adding 134 runs for the first wicket in just 13.3 overs. Though Raina (at no. 3) fell in the very next over, Rayudu (100*) and Dhoni (20*) remained unbeaten till the end to take them home comfortably with an 8-wicket victory.
Surprisingly, Sun Risers bowling struggled for once in this season and this victory will give CSK immense confidence going forward in the tournament. An interesting stat to note is that four centuries are scored so far this season and three of them have come against the bowling-heavy Sun Risers Hyderabad!
Chennai Super Kings – 180/2 in 19 overs (Ambati Rayudu – 100*, Shane Watson – 57, Sandeep Sharma – 1/36) beat Sun Risers Hyderabad – 179/4 in 20 overs (Shikhar Dhawan – 79, Kane Williamson – 51, Shardul Thakur – 2/32, Deepak Chahar – 1/16) by 8 wickets
