Match Review :
The Mumbai Indians finally got everything right and outplayed the Chennai Super Kings here at the MCA Stadium, Pune.
Having won the toss, the Mumbai Indians decided to field first on a good batting track. They drew first blood by picking up the in-form Shane Watson. Ambati Rayudu, along with Suresh Raina, took the attack to the opposition. Rayudu once again showed how good a batsman he is. He scored 46 of 35 balls, which involved 2 4s and 4 6s. This duo added 71 runs in 7 overs before Rayudu got out to Krunal Pandya. MS Dhoni too, looked in good touch. Suresh Raina and Dhoni scored some quick runs and Chennai looked on course for a big score. However MS Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo were dismissed in quick succession and Chennai’s quest for big first innings score was denied. Suresh Raina remained not out at 75,47b,6x4s,4x6s and took his to a total of 169/5 in 20 overs.
The Mumbai Indians started their chase cautiously and added 50 in the power play. Evin Lewis looked out of touch right from the beginning and struggled to score. Surya Kumar Yadav gave the start Mumbai wanted and kept Mumbai Indians in the hunt. He Scored 44 of 34 before getting out to Harbajan Singh caught by Ravindra Jadeja. The Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma joined Evin Lewis and kept the scoreboard ticking. Evin Lewis got out when the team needed 42 from the final 4 overs. Rohit Sharma looked in good touch and scored some handy shots. At one stage, they needed 23 of the final 2 overs with Bravo having one over remaining under his sleeve. To everyone’surprise, MS Dhoni went to the young Shardul Thakur, who went on concede 4 boundaries in the match deciding over. They chased the target in 19.4 overs and won the game by 8 wickets. They stay alive in the tournament.
