Saturday, May 12, 2018, Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore

Match Wrap:

After a great start to their tournament, both the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) now find themselves fighting to find a place in the first four positions. Against all the odds, KKR defended a total, a mighty one though, in Indore to break into top four.

Put into bat first, KKR are off to a great start with their opener Sunil Narine scoring heavily at the top – 75 runs off just 36 deliveries including 9 fours and 4 sixes. This innings helped Karthik (50) and Russell (31) hit everything out of the ground in the death, which helped KKR finish with 245 for 6 in their 20 overs. Andrew Tye is the pick of Punjab bowlers with his second 4-wkt haul in as many games. He is also the current Purple cap holder with 20 wickets.

Chasing a big target, Punjab lost Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal in two consecutive deliveries in the sixth over. Rahul later threatened to take the game away from KKR with his mighty blows, however, Narine timely struck to dismiss Rahul to dent KKR’s chances. With some powerful hits in the end by Aaron Finch and Ashwin, Punjab managed to get within the touching distance of the target to save their Net Run Rate!

There was a stiff competition between Narine and Russell for the Man of the Match award. However, Narine was chosen for scoring a crucial 75 with the bat which laid foundation for a big total along with picking up the important wicket of Lokesh Rahul.

Kolkata Knight Riders (12 points) moved up to the fourth spot with this win while Kings XI Punjab (12 points) held on to their third position in the points table.
