IPL 2018 Team Review
The Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) has got some surprise picks at the auction and they have a new Captain in Ravichandran Ashwin for the upcoming IPL 2018 season. Ashwin played for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the first 8 seasons and for the Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) in the next 2 seasons. This will be the first time Ashwin is given the leadership responsibility.
Rahul is the second highest buy in this season among Indians with INR 11 Crores. He, along with out-of-form Chris Gayle, are set to play for the KXIP in the upcoming season. Yuvraj Singh who went on to play for different franchises is finally back with Kings XI. Yuvraj cannot afford to lose this opportunity as he has to prove himself ‘once again’ if he is aiming for a place in the 2019 World Cup side.
And as always, Punjab overseas contingent is filled with majority of stars from Australia! It was a bit surprising though when they retained Axar Patel who did not have any match winning performances in the past. He was taken for runs almost in every season of the IPL he has played. Axar is an all-rounder with no fifties and just one 4-wkt haul to his name in the four seasons he played.
Punjab bought Gayle and Yuvraj for just INR 2 Crore each. That’s a steal at that price! On their day, these two are as dangerous as anyone and can score runs for fun. And a special mention for Mayank Agarwal as well, who was bought for INR 1 Crore. He has a great domestic season going into this IPL.
Gayle, Rahul and Finch can fill the top 3 positions and if one of them gets going, then that’s the match for Kings XI Punjab. Yuvraj, Miller and Stoinis strengthen up the middle order, which will help the top order to play their shots.
Mayank Agarwal and Karun Nair just have to step up to support the seniors in the team. Though Ashwin is an inexperienced Captain, experience of the seniors (ex-captains or current captains in different T20 leagues) will come in handy on the field.
