IPL 2018, 55th Match, Delhi Daredevils vs Mumbai Indians – Delhi Daredevils won by 11 runs
Sunday, May 20, 2018, Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi
Batting under high temperatures, the Delhi Daredevils led by Rishabh Pant’s sixth fifty of the season followed by an unbeaten 35-run stand for the fifth wicket between Vijay Shankar (43* off 30) and Abhishek Sharma (15* off 10) for the fifth wicket, helped them get to 174 for 4 in 20 overs.
Both the Delhi openers departed early inside 5 overs, Prithvi Shaw ran himself out in the fourth over while Glenn Maxwell was cleaned up by Bumrah in the fifth over. The Mumbai Indians didn’t capitalize on this early momentum, instead they leaked runs to give the home team full advantage.
Chasing a big target, Mumbai Indians kept losing wickets at regular intervals only to build pressure on themselves. Except a few blows from Evin Lewis (48 off 31), Hardik Pandya (27 off 17) and Ben Cutting (37 off 20), no other batsmen has scared the hosts. And in the end, MI who were bowled out with 3 balls to spare fell short by 11 runs.
Rishabh Pant has been Delhi’s star performer once again and with 684 runs in 14 games (this season) he has regained the Orange Cap from Kane Williamson (661 runs). However, with SRH to feature in the playoffs, Williamson is expected to finish the tournament as the leading run scorer unless he loses his form overnight.
The Delhi Daredevils have defeated Mumbai in both the games in this season. MI might have taken the first loss very lightly at the start of the season but this second loss (which knocked them out of IPL 2018) will hurt them until the start of next season!
Delhi Daredevils – 174/4 in 20 overs (Rishabh Pant – 64, Vijay Shankar – 43*, Krunal Pandya – 1/11, Mayank Markande – 1/21) beat Mumbai Indians – 163 in 19.3 overs (Evin Lewis – 48, Ben Cutting – 37, Amit Mishra – 3/19, Harshal Patel – 3/28) by 11 runs
