IPL 2018, 5th Match, Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders – Chennai Super Kings won by 5 wickets
Tuesday, April 10, 2018, MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
It’s quite a home coming for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Tuesday (April 10) as they chased down a huge target of 203 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Home team won the toss and opted to bowl first.
KKR at one stage were in big trouble when they lost their first 5 wickets for just 89 runs. And then came Andre Russell in the 11th over who shared a 76-run stand with Dinesh Karthik for the sixth wicket. Russell remained unbeaten at the end of the innings scoring a 36-ball 88, which includes 1 Four and 11 Sixes. This is also Russell’s highest score in IPL.
With the help of this explosive innings, KKR finished with 202 on the board in their 20 overs. This is also the first score of 200+ in the ongoing eleventh season of IPL. However, CSK playing in their home ground for the first time in 2 years came out with all guns blazing to chase this target down in a dramatic fashion!
Unlike in their first game, CSK got a high start with openers, Rayudu and Watson, adding 75 runs for the first wicket in just 5.5 overs! Sam Billings stuck a 23-ball 56 with 2 fours and 5 sixes in the end to ensure Chennai gets close to the target.
Bravo and Jadeja finished the job for CSK when they needed 17 runs off the final over. This is the highest target chased down against KKR by any team in IPL. Also, this is the second highest successful chase for CSK in IPL.
“CSK has done it the Dhoni way” – The catchy headline has made its way on Internet after the victory as the match went down to the last over of the match!
