IPL 2018, 25th Match, Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Kings XI Punjab
Thursday, 26th April, Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad
Match Review :
The Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off a thrilling victory in another low scoring game, this time against the consistent Kings XI Punjab, who were in great form winning their last 4 games.
On a good batting track, the Kings XI Punjab decided to bowl first after winning the toss. Once again, the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s batting weaknesses were exposed. Ankit Rajpoot removed the Sunrisers Captain Kane Williamson in the very first over of the innings. He picked up Shikhar Dhawan and Wriddhiman Saha in his 2nd and 3rd over respectively pushing Sunrisers Hyderabad into deep trouble. Manish Pandey and Shakib Al Hasan put up a partnership of 52 and kept their team on track. But the run rate was always around 6-6.5 runs per over. Shakib Al Hasan(28,29b) got out to Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Manish Pandey too got out after getting to 54 of 51 balls. In the end the Sunrisers Hyderabad managed a mere 132-6 in their 20 overs. Ankit Rajpoot has been the pick of the bowlers for Kings XI Punjab, picked up 5-14 in his 4 overseas, in the process becoming the first uncapped player to pick up 5 wickets in the history of IPL and the first 5-wicket haul in this season of IPL.
The Kings XI Punjab started off their chase well. The in-form openers Lokesh Rahul and Chris Gayle added 55 runs for the first wicket in 7.4 overs. However both of them were back in the hut within space of 4 deliveries and gave the Sunrisers Hyderabad an opening there. Mayank Agarwal, Karin Nair, Aaron Finch all got out cheaply and the run-rate which was never an issue for them looked a bit beyond reach. They were 77-2 in 12 overs at one stage before being reduced to 101-9 in 17.2 overs. Sandeep Sharma, Rashid Khan, Shakib Al Hasan chipped in with wickets and brought their team back into the game. Rashid Khan, their trump card picked up 3-19 in 4 overs and broke the back of Kings XI Punjab. Ankit Rajpoot was the last one to get out for Kings XI Punjab, bundling their innings out at 119-10 in 19.2 overs. The Sunrisers Hyderabad won this match by 13 runs and moved to the 2nd place in the Points table.
