India knocked out of Women's T20I Triseries

Women’s T20I Tri Series, Fourth Match, India Women vs Australia Women – Australia won by 36 runs.

Mumbai, Monday, March 26, 2018

Match Wrap:

A knockout punch from Australia Women in a do-or-die game for India meant that the hosts will have to wait a little longer to register their first win in the ongoing home season.

Unlike in the first two matches, India opted to bowl first in this game. However, their plans did not go well as they leaked too many runs. Hosts lost Mandhana and Mithali very early in the tall chase and they did not recover since then.

Meghan Schutt was the pick of the Australian bowlers as she became the first Australian player to pick up a hat-trick in Women’s T20Is. She picked up the wickets of Smriti Mandhana, Mithali Raj and Deepti Sharma in three consecutive deliveries that spanned across two overs.

Asmavia Iqbal (Pak), Ekta Bisht (Ind), Marizanne Kapp (SA), Natalie Sciver (Eng), Sana Mir (Pak), Anna Peterson (NZ) are the only other players to bag a hat-trick in Women’s T20Is till date.

India are knocked out of this tournament as they won’t make it to the Final even if they beat England in their next game on Thursday (March 29). The last round robin match between India and England has now become a dead rubber and England will be keen to use it as a practice match before the final on Saturday (March 31).
