Second ODI, India Women vs England Women – England Women won by 8 wickets
Monday, April 09, 2018, Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur
A near perfect performance from England Women has helped them beat India in the second ODI in Nagpur by 8 wickets. The ongoing ODI series is now level 1 – 1 with a match to go in this three match series. It’s the ‘No show’ in this game that hurts India most than the defeat.
Nothing went in the favor of the home team after opting to bat first. Only three of their players in addition to ‘Extras’ have managed to get to a double digit score. Indian opener Smriti Mandhana once again top scored for India with 42.
Sophie Ecclestone is the pick of the English bowlers as she picked up 4 wickets conceding just 14 runs. These are also her best bowling figures in this format and she has overall affected 6 dismissals (4 Wickets, 1 catch and a run-out) in this match. Deservingly, she is awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ award.
It’s a sorry day for the Indians with the bat as they are bowled out for just 113 on the board. England openers, Danielle Wyatt and Tammy Beaumont, put on a 73-run partnership for the first wicket. Though Wyatt and Jones (No. 3 batter) fell in quick succession, Beaumont and Knight combined to take England to a comfortable 8-wicket victory.
The third and final ODI of this three match series will be played at the same venue on Thursday (April 12). India will have to put this loss behind themselves before they field for the final game.
England Women – 117/2 in 29 overs (Danielle Wyatt – 47, Tammy Beaumont – 39, Ekta Bisht – 2/44) beat India Women – 113 in 37.2 overs (Smriti Mandhana – 42, Deepti Sharma – 26*, Sophie Ecclestone – 4/14, Danielle Hazell – 4/32) by 8 wickets.
