Second ODI, India Women vs Australia Women – Australia won by 60 runs
Vadodara, March 15, 2018
Bang! Bang!! Two in a row! Australia won the first two games against India in the ongoing three match ODI series. They have taken an unassailable lead of 2 – 0 against India with one more match remaining in the series.
India won the toss and asked Australia to bat first. Australian opener Nicole Bolton started off well and she almost scored her second century of the series today. Bolton departed in the 30th over of the innings with 84 against her name in 88 deliveries with 12 Fours.
Later, it was the 96-run stand for the fifth wicket between Perry and Mooney is what has taken Australia to a big total in their 50 Overs. In the process, both the players scored their half-centuries.
Though Mithali Raj is back for India in this match, the home team are still missing their experienced bowler Jhulan Goswami. Indian bowlers in both the first two games have conceded too many runs only making it tough for them to make a comeback.
Indian opener Smriti Mandhana was brilliant at the start of chase but no one later got going with the bat. Other opener, Punam Raut’s 61-ball 27, certainly did not help the home team. Pooja scored runs once again batting at no. 9 but her effort wasn’t enough to take India over the line.
Meghan Schutt’s bowling needs a special mention as she bowled 3 maidens in her first 5 Overs conceding just 8 runs. That’s a big blow for India at the very start of this big run chase. Schutt finished her 10 over spell with a wicket to her name conceding just 24 runs!
Australian Women – 287/9 in 50 Overs (Nicole Bolton – 84, Ellyse Perry – 70, Beth Mooney – 56, Shikha Pandey – 3/61) beat India Women – 227/10 in 49.2 Overs (Smriti Mandhana – 67, Pooja Vastrakar – 30, Jess Jonassen – 3/51) by 60 runs.
