Women’s T20I Tri Series, First Match, India Women vs Australia Women – Australia won by 6 wickets
Mumbai, Thursday, March 22, 2018
A change in the format, but the match result remains the same. After displaying a complete dominance in the three match ODI series against the hosts, Australia start the Women’s T20I Triseries with a win over India in the first match.
Australia have won the toss as they asked India to bat first. The same sorry tale with the bat continued for India except Smriti Mandhana who scored a brilliant half-century with 11 fours and 2 sixes. India has scored 99 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in the first 13.3 overs and this is when Mandhana departed. In the next 6.3 overs, India managed to score only 53 runs which took them to a below par total.
In reply, Australia has fumbled at the start losing two early wickets to India’s returning player Jhulan Goswami. However, a 79-run stand for the third wicket between Beth Mooney and Elyse Villani sealed the game for the visitors. Later Meg Lanning and Rachael Haynes ensured Australia go home with a six wicket victory.
India have to regroup themselves before they play their next match against England on Sunday (March 25). The second match of the Tri Series will be played between Australia and England in Mumbai on Friday (March 23).
Australia Women – 156/4 in 18.1 overs (Beth Mooney – 45, Elyse Villani – 39, Jhulan Goswami – 3/30) beat India Women – 152/5 in 20 overs (Smriti Mandhana – 67, Anuja Patil – 35, Ashleigh Gardner – 2/22) by 6 wickets
