At times, scoring a century in International cricket is considered a big mountain to scale! If scoring a century is such a daunting task, then how difficult is it to score a 150-plus score at the international level? Do you know who scored the most 150-plus scores at this level?! Let us find out:
Starting from 1999 to 2012, Australia’s former captain has 16 scores of 150 or more in International cricket. This milestone for Punter started with a heartbreak as he departed for 197 when he got past the 150 mark for the first time. This was against Pakistan in 1999 in a Test match at the WACA in Perth.
15 out of 16 such hundreds were made in Tests. His only other 150+ score was scored in an ODI in 2006 in which South Africa recorded the highest successful chase in the history of ODI cricket.
The all-time greatest batsman in the history of Cricket has 18 scores of 150 or more in International cricket. Out of his 18 such scores, he only failed 6 times to get past the 200 mark. There was no ODI format during the time of Don and all his eighteen 150+ scores were scored in Tests.
Also, Don went pretty close to become the first player ever to score three triple-hundreds in Test Cricket. He has scores of 334 & 304 against England (both at Headingly) and an unbeaten 299* against South Africa (at the Adelaide Oval).
Sanga has 20 scores of 150 or more in International cricket. Out of these, 16 were scored on Asian pitches and other 4 on overseas grounds. This is the only reason why he is not considered among the best batsmen in history.
Lara is considered one of the best batsmen in the longest format of cricket. He rightly deserved it as he scored two of the top three individual-highest-scores in Test cricket. Having made his debut in 1990, Lara scored 277 in 1993 and a 375 in 1994 (highest individual score in Tests then).
Also, he came up with 400 in the same year when Australia’s Matthew Hayden scored 380 in a Test match against Zimbabwe in 2004. Overall, he has nineteen 150+ scores in Tests and 3 such scores in ODIs.
1.Sachin Tendulkar (Ind):
Legendary batsman Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar tops the list with 25 scores of 150 or more. His double hundred against South Africa in 2010 is highlight of his career as he inspired many to breach the milestone of 200 in ODIs!
The year 2010 has been very good for him as scored three double centuries (one in an ODI and two in Tests)- 200* vs South Africa, 203 vs Sri Lanka and 214 vs Sri Lanka.
