17th Sep 1986

Birth of Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. He made his ODI debut in 2011 replacing Harbhajan Singh. Ashwin is the fastest bowler to 300 Test wickets and his bowling figures of 9 for 128 on Test debut are the second best for an Indian player on debut. Ashwin is the third bowler after Jack Gregory and Ian Botham to score a century and pick up a 7-fer in an innings of a Test match – Ashwin scored 113 against West Indies and took 7 for 83 in the second innings of the Test.

18th Sep 1997

Indian former captain Sourav Ganguly in 1997 shocked everyone on this day with his five-fer against Pakistan in Toronto. His picked up 5 wickets conceding just 16 runs in his 10 overs and also bowled 3 maiden overs. India won the match by a margin of 34 runs. His 5 for 16 in this match are his career best figures in ODI cricket.

19th Sep 2007

Six sixes in a single Over!! Yuvraj Singh hit six sixes against England in the World T20 2007 and is the only Indian till date to hit six sixes in an International match. Stuart Broad was at the receiving end in that over. Courtesy this knock, Yuvi got to his half century in just 12 deliveries – a record which is yet to be broken in any form of cricket.

20th Sep 2018

Playing for Jharkhand, India’s domestic player Shahbaz Nadeem registered bowling figures of 8 for 10 against Rajasthan in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. These are the best figures for any player in List A cricket.

22nd Sep 1986

India and Australia were on this day involved in the second tied Test match in the history of cricket. Needing 348 to win the Test match, India were bowled out for 347 finishing the Test match in a tie! Kapil Dev scored a century in the first innings of this Test match while Sunil Gavaskar scored 90 runs in the second innings.

23rd Sep 1985

Birth of Indian middle order batsman Ambati Rayudu. He was one of those players to participate in the rebel Indian Cricket League. He made his ODI debut for India against Zimbabwe in 2013 and was instrumental with the bat scoring a half century on debut. Playing for CSK, he made a name for himself becoming the leading run scorer in the IPL 2018 season.
