Indian team captain, Virat Kohli, has been rested for the ODI series against Sri Lanka, BCCI announced on Monday November 27. Virat will be rested after playing the third test match against Sri Lanka. The selectors have decided to rest him because of the tight busy schedule in the upcoming year 2018. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma has been handed captaincy duties for the ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Kohli is the only Indian player who has played more than 100 international matches since January 2015. He had recently spoken about India’s workload management, and requested for a much needed rest.
Shikar Dhawan, who missed the second test due to personal reasons, has rejoined the squad for the final test match, which will be played at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. Uncapped all-rounder Vijay Shankar and pace bowler Mohammad Shami have also been retained for the final test match against Sri Lanka.
BCCI named the 15 man squad for the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Uncapped fast bowler, Siddarth Kaul, is rewarded for his consistent performance in domestic circuit and got maiden call-up to the Indian side for Sri Lanka ODI series.
Hardik Pandya, who was rested for the test series against Sri Lanka, has been added to the ODI series. While spin bowling pair of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are once again ignored by the selectors for the ODI format.
