The Indian premier league (IPL) from the 2018 season will see some changes as stated in a general council meeting. IPL chairman, Rajeev Shukla, proposes the idea of a mid-season player transfer and early start to the night games.
All the franchises welcomed the idea of 7pm IST start for the night game instead of 8 pm. That means the first match on the double-header days will start at 3pm IST.
However, implementation of this change will depend on the new broadcast partners from the 2018 season, Star TV network.
The mid-season transfer of players will be much like what we have seen in the South African domestic T20 league where a player, if not getting an opportunity to feature in the starting XI due to the tight combination and team balance, can play for other teams and can join that team during mid-season on a loan deal.
On the mid-season transfer of players, IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla said: “Every IPL owner agreed to have this in the forthcoming season. It will give chance to those players who are good but are not getting opportunities to be part of playing XI of any IPL side. We are having an IPL governing council meeting soon to finalize all these points”.
The 2018 IPL season will start from April 4, 2018 to May 31, 2018 and it will see the return of former champions Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. They will be coming back to the IPL after serving 2 years of suspension for the involvement of their owners in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing and betting. They will replace Gujrat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiants franchises in the 2018 IPL edition.
