Tuesday, September 11, 2018, The Oval, London

Match Wrap:

England had overcome Rahul-Pant scare in the fourth innings to win the fifth Test match at The Oval of the five-match series! Rahul and Pant batted well to take the game in to the final session on Day 5 and with all the three results possible! Adil Rashid, somehow, found a way to dismiss both these batsmen which opened floodgates and helped England get to victory!

James Anderson picked up the final wicket in India’s second innings to complete the 118-run victory. This was his record-breaking 564th wicket in Tests. With that wicket, he surpassed Glenn McGrath (563) to become leading wicket taker among pacers in Test matches, fourth highest wicket taker overall!

It was a great Test match on a whole for the England team. Alastair Cook (71 &147) playing his last Test match became the first England player to score a hundred in his debut and last Test match. James Anderson surpassed Glenn McGrath while Stuart Broad (433 wickets) came close to Kapil Dev (434).

Alastair Cook has been awarded with the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his great knock – half century and century! Virat Kohli and Sam Curran who have been consistent all through the five match Test series have been presented with ‘Player of the Series’ award for India and England respectively.

With this victory in the fifth Test match, England won the five match series by a margin of 4-1.
