South Africa vs India
4th ODI, New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg
The fourth ODI begins tomorrow at the New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. India is on the verge of winning their first ever ODI series in South Africa. India lead the series 3-0, with the fourth game offering South Africa their last chance to stay alive in the series.
South Africa and India have played six ODI series in South Africa and the home side haven’t lost a series to date. India have never won in South Africa and this series is a golden chance for Kohli’s men to prove they can handle the pressure away from home.
Batting in the series has been a real struggle for the South African team. Losing AB De Villiers, Faf Du Plessis and Quinton de Kock in consecutive matches has left the South African team without an experienced middle order. De Kock and Du Plessis will not take any further part in the series but AB De Villiers is set to return.
Suffering a finger injury in the last Test, ABD missed the first three ODIs. South Africa will play the ODI in a pink uniform to raise funds for breast cancer awareness. The last time ABD wore the pink outfit he smacked a 31-ball century against the West Indies.
South Africa’s struggle with spin has been well documented. Indian spin duo Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have taken 21 wickets out of the total 27 wickets in the series.
ABD will possibly replace Khaya Zondo in the playing XI. In a bid to strengthen the batting further, the inclusion of Farhaan Behardien seems likely. Whether South Africa will remove their fifth bowling option in Phehlukwayo or not remains to be seen.
India has almost nothing to worry about. They are operating like a well-oiled machine with their run engine Virat Kohli running smoothly.
This ODI will either give South Africa a hope in the series or it will hand India their first ODI series win in South Africa.
