Asia Cup ‘Super Four’ – Can Afghanistan beat Pakistan?

Asia Cup Super Four - Can Afghanistan beat Pakistan

Asia Cup 2018, Super Four, Second Match, Pakistan vs Afghanistan

Friday, September 21, 2018, Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi

Match Preview:

Having played just two matches against each other till date, the ODI rivalry between Pakistan and Afghanistan has been very little. Although Pakistan won both the ODI games played against Afghanistan, minnows Afghanistan are coming into this match as favorites. Play is scheduled to start at 05:00 pm IST.

Afghanistan won both the games at the group stage and by a bigger margin as well! They had defeated Sri Lanka in their first game by 91 runs while pinned down Bangladesh by a 136-run victory on Thursday (Sep 20). Pakistan, on the other hand, were sloppy and looked like a team with little confidence in the game against India. In fact, Pakistan belittled themselves with such a poor performance against India. Pakistan have a 1-1 win-loss record at the group stage in this season.

Can Pakistan drop Mohammad Amir? The big question that still needs to be answered by Pakistan in this format of the game! Amir picked up only 3 wickets in his last 9 ODIs while remained wicket less in his last four ODI games. At the most, Pakistan can make a single change to their line-up by dropping out-of-form Amir.

Afghanistan who are fresh from a massive victory against Bangladesh are expected to make no changes to their playing XI. The partnership between Rashid Khan and Gulbadin Naib for the 8th wicket against Bangladesh was impressive and their bowlers did the rest to ensure a massive victory on Thursday (Sep 20). After such a morale-boosting performance, no team wants to tinker with their playing XI!
